一自寃禽出帝宮(일자원금출제궁)

孤身隻影碧山中(고신척영벽산중)

假眠夜夜眠無假(가면야야면무가)

窮恨年年恨不窮(궁한년년한불궁)

聲斷曉岑殘月白(성단효잠잔월백)

血流春谷落花紅(혈류춘곡락화홍)

天聾尙未聞哀訴(천롱상미문애소)

胡乃愁人耳獨聰(호내수인이독총)

원통한 새 한 마리 궁궐에서 쫓겨나

외로운 그림자 푸른 산골에 갇혔네.

밤마다 잠 청해도 잠은 오지 않고

삭여도 삭여도 끝없는 한이로구나.

울음 소리 잦아든 봉우리에 새벽 달 흰데

피눈물인 듯 봄날의 시냇물엔 붉은 꽃잎 흘러라.

하늘은 귀가 먹어 내 하소연 못 듣는데

어찌하여 서러운 나는 귀만 오직 밝은가?

One of the birds was cast out of the palace.

A lonely shadow is trapped in a blue mountain.

I try to sleep every night but I do not sleep

It is an endless one, even though I try to swallow my own anger.

The crying is often dawn in the peaks.

Flowing red petals in the brook of Springtime as if it were a bloody flesh.

Heaven keeps silence and does not hear my supplication

Why is it that my rageous mind does have only a bright ear?

제목 : 寧越郡樓作 (영월군루작 : 영월군 관풍루(觀風樓)에서 짓다)

작자 : 단종

해설 : 왕위에서 쫓겨나 유배지인 강원도 영월의 청령포에서 지은 시이다. 만 16세 때에 지은 작품이다. 절해고도와도 같은 청령포에서 밤잠을 이루지 못하고 피눈물을 흘리며 원통해하는 모습이 눈에 선하게 묘사되어 있다. 청령포에 자규루(子規樓)가 있어서 <자규시(子規詩)>라고도 불린다. 자규는 두견새이다. 마지막 행은 좋은 소식이 오기를 간절히 기다리는 예민한 심리 상태를 드러내고 있다. 제 3구에서 ‘窮’ 자를 처음과 끝에 배치한 것이라든지, 제 5구와 제 6구에서 ‘白’과 ‘紅’을 짝지은 것은 뛰어난 시적 재능을 보여 준다. 특히 제 5구에서는 달빛 비치는 산봉우리에서 새벽이 들 때까지 울먹이는 소년의 모습이 한 폭의 그림처럼 다가온다.

Author: Danjong, the Sixth King of Joseon Kingdom (1452~1455)

Commentary : It is a poem made in Seongyeongpo, Yeongwol, Gangwon Province, which was King Danjong's place of exile from his throne. It is a work that he wrote it at the age of 16 years old. It depicts his sorrowful shedding tears, anguish, and sleepless night. There was a Jagyulu at Seongyeongpo, and it was also called "Jagyu poem." Jagyu is cuculus poliocephalus. The last verse reveals a delicate psychological state that eagerly awaits good news. A combination of 'White' and 'Red' in the 5th and 6th phrases shows excellent poetic talent. Especially the 5th phrase depicts a boy crying until dawn in the moonlight mountain peaks comes up like a picture.
