‘왕의시(御製詩)’ 가이드북-Guidebook for the Kings’ Poetry-2

薄相胡爲在此中(박상호위재차중)

深思此理古人風(심사차리고인풍)

朝鮮始祖雖稱號(조선시조수칭호)

德乏前賢愧不窮(덕핍전현괴불궁)

복 없는 얼굴이 웬 일로 여기 있나?

이치를 더듬어 보니 조상의 덕이로다.

나를 조선의 시조라고들 하지만

옛 어른보다 덕이 적어 한없이 부끄럽네.

Why such a face without blessing is here?

It is the virtue of the ancestor as I stared at it.

People call me the founder of Joseon Kingdom

However I am so shameful because I am not so virtuous than my ancestors.

제목 : 題西京影殿御容 (제서경영전어용 : 서경 영전의 어진에 대하여)

작자 : 태조

해설 : 서경(西京: 평양)의 영전(影殿 : 초상화를 모신 곳)에 모셔진 자신의 초상화를 보고 스스로를 겸양하여 쓴 시이다. 복이 없어 보이는 관상임에도 불구하고 왕이 된 것은 조상의 음덕(蔭德)이라며 겸손해하는 태도를 보이고 있다. 태조의 어진(御眞)은 여섯 곳에 있었다. 서울의 문소전(文昭殿), 전주의 경기전(慶基殿), 영흥의 준원전(濬源殿), 경주의 집경전(集慶殿), 평양의 영숭전(永崇殿), 개성의 목청전(穆淸殿)이 그것이다. 영숭전이라는 이름은 1442년(세종 24)에 지어졌다.

Title : Jae Seokyeong Yeongjeon Eoyong (: Regarding King's Portrait of Seokyeong Yeongjeon)

Author : Taejo, The First King and the Founder of Joseon Kingdom (1392~1398)

Commentary : It is poetry poised itself by seeing his own portrait taken at Yeongjeon of Seokyeong (Pyongyang, the place where his portrait is held) with his humble heart. Despite being not blessed with his appearance, saying that being a king is the virtue of ancestors, shown an attitude of modesty. There were several  places where King Taejo's portraits were held such as Munsojeon in Seoul, Gyeonggijeson in Jeonju, Junwonjeon in Yeongheung, Jibgyeongjeon in Gyeongju, Yeongsungjeon in Pyongyang, and Mogcheongjeon in Gaeseong, The name Youngsungjeon was built in 1442 (Sejong 24).
