突兀高峯接斗魁(돌올고봉접두괴)

漢陽形勝自天開(한양형승자천개)

山盤大陸擎三角(산반대륙경삼각)

海曳長江出五臺(해예장강출오대)

우뚝 솟은 봉우리가 북두칠성에 닿으니

한양의 뛰어난 경치 하늘이 열었네.

산은 대지를 딛었으니 삼각산이 솟아나고

바다는 긴 강을 끌어가니 오대산에서 흘러왔구나.

The towering peaks touch the Big Dipper

The outstanding scenery sky of Hanyang opened.

The mountains have set foot on the earth,

and the Samkak Mountain has sprung up.

The sea draws a long river, and it flows from Ohdae Mountain.

제목 : 白岳詩 (백악시 : 백악산에서 쓴 시)

작자 : 태조

해설 : 태조가 백악산(白岳山 : 북악산)에 올라 쓴 시이다. 우뚝 솟은 삼각산과 도도히 흐르는 한강을 중심 소재로 삼고 있다. 삼각산은 북한산의 옛 이름이다. 한양의 경관을 묘사하고 있지만, 그 속에는 태조 자신의 웅혼한 기상도 감추어져 있다. 홍만종(洪萬鍾)은 《소화시평 (小華詩評)》에서 이 시는 태조가 왕이 되기 전에 백악산에 올라 쓴 시라고 밝히고, 필력이 호기롭고 장대하기가 한고조(漢高祖)의 <대풍가(大風歌)>와 겨룰 만하다고 하였다. 제 3구와 제 4구가 좋은 댓구를 이루고 있다. 제 3행의 ‘盤’이 ‘蟠(파: 서리다, 틀어감고 엎드리다)’로 적혀 전하기도 한다.

Title : Baekak Mountain Poetry (: Poem written at Baekak Mountain)

Author : Taejo, the First King and the Founder of Joseon Kingdom (1392~1398)

Commentary : This poem was written by the King Taejo at Baekak Mountain. The towering triangular Samgak Mountain and the flowing Han River are the main topics. Samgak Mountain is the old name of Bukhan Mountain. This poem depicts the landscape of Hanyang (Seoul), the capital city of Joseon Kingdom, but inside it is hidden from his majestic spirit. In 《Sowhashipyong [小華詩評]》, Hong Man-Jong stated that this poem was written on Baekak Mountain before King Taejo became the first King of Joseon Kingdom, and this poetry was expressed his heroic temper and grandeur, which is comparable to Han Go-Jo's <Song of Strong Wind>. The third and fourth phrases are considered as good examples of responding comments each other. In the third verse, the 'board' [盤’] was written as 'Pa' [蟠] at other duplicated poetry document, which means stand, turn, and fall down.
