屈曲似蒼龍(굴곡사창룡)

壇前日月久(단전일월구)

大枝本自三(대지본자삼)

小榦便成九(소간편성구)

風雨乃能生(풍우내능생)

雪霜豈畏有(설상기외유)

尙而君子心(상이군자심)

竟夕倚牕友(경석의창우)

용을 닮은 듯 굽은 몸으로 단 앞에서 오랜 세월 서 있었구나.

큰 줄기는 본래 셋인데 작은 가지는 어느덧 아홉 개가 되었네.

비바람 속에서 살아남았으니 그까짓 눈서리가 두려우랴?

그대 언제나 군자의 기품 잃지 않으니

저녁 내내 창가에 앉아 그대를 벗하노라.

You've been standing in front of the Altar for many years.

The big stem is originally three, The little branches have become nine.

You survived the harsh rainstorm, You are not afraid of such a snowy frost?

You never lose the gentleman's dignity and grace

So I make friend with you by sitting at the window all evening.

제목 : 社壇松(사단송 : 사직단의 소나무)

작자 : 영조

해설 : 영조 2년(1726) 사직단에서 제사를 거행한 뒤, 재실 앞뜰의 큰 소나무 한 그루를 보며 쓴 시이다. 이처럼 사물을 노래한 시를 영물시(詠物詩)라 한다. 이전에 선조(宣祖)가 이 나무를 보고 쓴 시가 있어 이에 차운하였다. 영조는 조선의 국왕 중 첫째가는 독서광이었으며, 시문을 가장 많이 남겼고, 문학적 수준도 뛰어났던 것으로 평가되고 있다.

Title : A Pine Tree at the Altar Sajigdan

Author : The King Yeongjo, the 21st King of Joseon Kingdom (1724~1776)

Commentary : This poetry was written in the second year of the King Yeongjo (1726), when he saw a lonely pine tree in front of a shrine room after he performed a ritual at the Altar Sajigdan. Such a poem that sings natural things is called a poetry of thing. There was a poem where the King Seonjo had seen this same pine tree before and wrote a poetry about it. The King Yeongjo was one of the first readers of the King Seonjo wrote about it, then he wrote this same pine tree related poetry. The King Yeongjo was the most renowned literary glutton during Joseon Kingdom, and left most of poems. Therefore he was considered to have excellent literary level.
